Animal Man #2

So Animal Man’s daughter is more powerful than he is?  I haven’t followed all of the stories with him in it, but this seems like kind of a surprise.  She is able to change other people into animals, and bring back dead animals to cavort in her kitchen.  I’m not sure if this book connects with Swamp Thing.  So far that book is all about connecting to the Green and this about connecting to the Red.  Maybe there is a connection?

I’m not sure I like the Father-Daughter hero idea.  I think it is fine for a story arc, but if it becomes the whole book, it might feel like Incredibles.  This book is full of horror.  While new red map-tattoo is truly ‘bad-ass’ (as his son said), it still was a bit horrific.  Dead animals and skeletons jumped around with a live cat.  His son goes out at 3:45 am to dig up a neighbors yard and nobody thought it was odd?  hippos blow up suddenly.  But the scariest thing is the little girl who talks like a creepy adult.

The art fits the story well.  I thought it was okay at first, but when the horror kicks in, he does a great job.  Everything is distorted and twisted and adds to the story.
