Dectective

Wow! What can I say? This issue is AWESOME! Scary. Dark and really violent. Definitely not for the faint of heart. It was a quick page-turner. Kept  me riveted. Everything clicked — art, story, dialogue — all moved along at the right pace and kept the suspense. They worked as one – as it should be. I was grossed out and at the same time intrigued and can’t wait for issue #2 to see what happens next.

Great start. I give it an A.              —Kelly

Tony Daniel is a great artist, but I’d now recommend him as a very good writer as well.  He has some good story ideas.  The story flowed well and the action was easy to follow and had great impact.  Also the ending was a great twist.  It sets up a future comic that everyone will want to get, just so that they can see what happens.

His art is great.  It is all well done, but some panels really stand out.  A few scenes stand out 1) when Batman shoots across the moon.  2) Batman near the flood light 3) Batman triumphant over the Joker.

Great story, great art, great comic.  A  —-  Don

I had my doubts about seeing so many artists moving to writer/artist or even just writer positions, but Tony Daniel has been doing it well for awhile but has never looked better than here. The story and setting are clear and easy to pick up on, but there’s also a lot going on beneath the surface that is only implied, making me interested in seeing more. On the art side, the penciling is very tight and looks both fresh and familiar when compared with earlier Daniel work, and embellished perfectly by inker Ryan Winn.

I tend to not care for seeing a Joker story, mostly because they seem to happen so often that it’s hard to expect any real impact. The Dark Knight movie was an obvious exception, and now so is this issue of Detective Comics.
