This issue we get a back story about Jason. We learn that he was dunked into the Lazarus pit. I think it was mentioned 4 times in this issue. I don’t know if the writer thinks we are forgetful? or if he just forgot that he told us that already. Also, I think it was mentioned that he was beat to death by the Joker 3 times in this issue. Don’t get me wrong, that is the most interesting thing about Jason. But I just don’t think he should be talking about it so much. Does he go to parties and pick up chicks that way? “hey, baby, I was beaten to death by the Joker with a crowbar.” On second thought that might work.
We learn that he was raised by an anime cliché. A sour and sassy martial arts expert tought him tough lessons. It’s still pretty cool even if we have seen it many times before. But I guess she didn’t teach him how not to kill, because Jason is all ‘Han solo shot first’ in one scene as he kills people that were yelling at him. Maybe there was weapons? But I didn’t see them.
The art is still outstanding in this book. The women are all sexy, the weapons are all tough, and the backgrounds are all detailed. Go back and look at the Ninja training land with its many steps.
He also likes to change up the panels shapes. Sometimes they are circles, sometimes jagged pentagons. He even puts splintering and patterns around the panels just to add flavor. You don’t really notice it, but you do notice it adds to the mood.
