Frankenstein #2

There are a lot of cool things in this book.  The writer adds a bunch of cool concepts.  Deadspace is the space between atoms.  Of course Ray Palmer (the Atom) comes up with that.

The firewall is pentagram that keeps the monsters in.  How is it made?  We will probably never know, but its cool to see.  We were introduced to the ‘Antfarm’ last issue, but now we know about the zoo.  It is microscopic prison inside a microscopic prison.  And in this prison is housed some genetic monsters too vicious to be loose.

In this issue we get to know the story of the sea creature.  It is a sad story of loss.  Loss of children and of creations.  Just when you are full of sympathy for her and her transformation, the tone of the character changes.  It goes from pathos to slapstick in a matter of pages, and then back again.  From monstrous transformation to jokes about ‘yoga’ and calling Frankenstein ‘big fella’.  Whatever emotional capital was created from the story was lost with the bad jokes.

But the art is good. The splash page of Frank jumping out of the helicopter is awesome.  But the coloring needs work.  Too much of the same tones.

Can’t wait to see Mrs. Frank next issue.   C+   Don
