The story in this is pretty straight forward. Grifter fights a Daemonite in a dinner, the his ‘brother’ shoots out his tire, so he runs away. There is a bit more involving the law enforcement and his old partner, but not much more.
I isn’t really about the sparse story, it is more about the art. Not only is there a lot of great detail lines in the work, but he is a great story-teller. Each panel leads to the next in a very cinematic style. You see the tension on the cop as he reaches for the gun. You see the hand heading for the cup of coffee. Everything is in mid-motion. The coffee is in splat, Grifter is flying over the bar, the flaming mess spreads across the bar. All good stuff that leads to kinetic energy that propels the comic forward.
If you don’t stop to admire the pretty art, the story will speed by quickly.
