Green Lantern Corps

Since every other green lantern has a comic (and even a red lantern) then these two needed a comic as well.  Guy and John are both popular characters, so it made sense to team them up together.  But I guess it more than just the two of them.  It seems like they will be leading missions with other corp members.  From the cover we see quite a few lanterns, only a few of which actually show up in this issue.

I guess the point of the first part of the comic is that superheroes can’t have real lives.  Both try and get jobs and don’t fit in.  They want to fit in, but are too dangerous.  It seemed a bit heart warming, but didn’t really fit their established characters.  Guy as a school instructor?  Not likely.

They set up a cosmic mystery for them to solve.  The art is nice but not spectacular.  Everything looks as it should and has a sense of polish.  But a book like this will live and breathe based on the characters portrayed in the book.

Green Lantern Corps. is another book that isn’t too different from the way it used to be, since Flashpoint happened during a rather successful run in the middle of some long-term stories. I like the introduction focusing on Guy and John trying to get “normal” jobs for their off-duty civilian lives and not being able to convince people that they’re anything other than a target for super-villains (John Stewart is/was an architect and Guy Gardner really was a high school football coach).

The Earth GLs make for main characters that readers can relate to, but I look forward to the GLC book showing us a lot about the various alien Lanterns (I guess Mogo is still gone, though I wouldn’t be surprised to see him return as a star or something), especially “The F-Sharp Bell” and that puffball collective that is effectively millions of GLs in a single sector…
