Red Lanterns #2

I think this issue had a stronger story.  It started off differently than I would expect from a Red Lantern.  It started off with their leader wistfully thinking about the purpose of rage.  He got all melancholy as he feels he has lost his way.  I don’t really expect philosophy from a book about angry vengeance.  But worked well, and I actually sympathize with him now.

The set up story on the planet Ghan IX was a bit long.  It was quite the intro.  We got to know the motivations of the kids on the planet and the life stories of the pilots.  I’m not sure it was needed, but it did add emotional impact to the story.  And the story didn’t have the typical ending.

The art is always great.  I think he actually getting better with this issue.  It did seem like he overused the blur effect.  He used it nicely with the explosions, but he overused it with some motion scenes.  But I can’t quibble with him too much.  He draws space ships awesome, but he also did a great job with some emotional things like the girl crying and the doll burning.  Not a lot of action, but his skill adds something that others would have missed.
