I’m still not sold on the geo-political banter in this book. It feels like the writer is attempting to capture the yuk-yuk days of the old JLI, but maybe I don’t appreciate the comedy. Some parts had their humor, but it mostly in reactions. The scene where everyone is taking bets on what Batman will do – that was pretty funny. And Tora’s reaction to guy was pretty funny as well.
But some of the stuff didn’t work. There was a scene where Rocket Red falls of the giant tin man. In it he needs help and the August General attempts a rescue. He actual is giving him instructions on what to do (open your arms?) on the way down. So unless he giant was thousands of feet in the air, I’m not sure how the would have time to talk during the fall.
And why did Booster leave? Because Ice got hurt. So hurt that she was fine by the time they arrived home. They left a rampaging giant over a boo-boo.
