Justice League #2

So now the team starts to come together.  It begins with a fight between Batman, Green Lantern and Superman.  And of course Superman is winning.  It does have some cool elements.  The conversation between GL and Flash is very funny.  While I don’t really think it seems like GL, it still fits his character a bit.  It’s like an exaggerated version of Hal.  It is supposed to be Hal 5 years ago.  Younger, more brash, and I guess more stupid.

But he does manage to talk Flash into joining the fight.  I really enjoyed him toying with Superman.  The ‘never been touched’ scene is a classic.

I liked how they were surprised by each other’s powers.  They didn’t know Superman could see through things, and everyone expected that Batman had powers.

I’m not sure why they spent so much time on the Flash’s office work.  Flash has his own comic to explore his personal life.  I guess it was supposed to set up the ‘world hates super-people’ aspect of the story, but it didn’t really gel with the rest.

The art is fantastic. Although I starting to quibble with some choices.  A lot of the faces seem the same on the men.  And why is Barry’s face half obscured on the first page.  I guess it was meant to be in silhouette, but it seems like a disfigurement.  But there are some outstanding moments:  Batman with his re-breather, surrounded by gas.  And the scene where Superman busts out of the GL chains.  That must have taken a week to draw all those elements.  And the big finale page of light and red.

Next issue Wonder Woman drawn by Jim Lee?  Can’t wait.
