Omac #2 picks up a bit after the 1st one ends. It seems to follow the formula for the TV shows ‘Kung Fu’ or ‘Incredible Hulk’. He wanders into a cafe and bad things happen. Then he must transform and fight in order to vanquish the bad guys.
There a few wrinkles in the story. Is the bad guy really bad? or is he just attempting to get away from Cadmus? Either way he does a lot property damage. Anyway, the best parts of the story are the Cadmus – Checkmate connection and big reveal at the end. Isn’t he dead? And the eye in the sky adds some humor and creepiness, and I’m not sure about this techno-virus.
I think the art has gotten stronger. Giffen is known for his 6 panel grids. He likes to pack lots of story into as much space as possible. His story telling skills are strong, you always know what is going on, and what is going on in between panels. But he is not the strongest with faces.
